Carbon monoxide poisoning was suspected. Mr. Harmes was born Dec. 16, 1923 at Cuero, Tex. where he spent his early life. He lived in Topeka 28 years. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and while stationed in England, he flew 34 missions over Germany as a radio operator on a B24 bomber. He formerly was stationed at Forbes Air Force Base and served on a flight training crew. He was graduated from his high school at Corpus Christi, Tex. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 523, Moose Lodge No. 555, Hayden Fathers and Friends Club, and the Glazier's Union. He owned and operated the Jayhawk Glass Company. He was married to Anna Marie Mauer in October, 1944 in Topeka. She survives. Two sons, David and Daniel, at home, also survive. Services will be Thursday at Most Pure heart of Mary Catholic Church with burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Rosaries will be recited by Knights of Columbus Council Wednesday and by the Hayden Fathers and Friends Club. Office of the Dead will be recited by the parish.
