Description	:	Lenora Mae Wittfoth Kumke, 89, died Aug. 29, 2018 at the Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill. Lenora, daughter of Frederick William Wittfoth and Rixte Hemmen Wittfoth, was born Feb. 1, 1929, at home in the Freewater School District south of Wilcox in Harlan County. She was baptized on March 20, 1929, by Pastor T. Seinkeisen. On May 28, 1944, Lenora was confirmed by Pastor A. G. Trost at St. Paul Lutheran church in Hildreth. She attended rural elementary school in Harlan and Franklin counties and graduated from Hildreth High School in Hildreth on May 14, 1946. She attended rural elementary school in Harlan and Franklin counties and graduated from Hildreth High School in Hildreth on May 14, 1946. In pursuit of a teaching career, she attended Kearney State Teachers’ College in Kearney, during the summer of 1946 receiving a 3rd Grade Elementary teaching certificate. Continuing her education during the summer months, she attained the Nebraska Initial General Elementary certificate, the Provisional General Elementary certificate and the Nebraska Junior Elementary certificate and the two year college diploma from KSTC. She began her 13 year career of teaching in rural schools: Lynce District #59, Pleasant View District #36, Smokey Hill District #17, Blake District #62, Ferguson District #31. After getting her 2 year diploma she taught grades 6, 7 and 8 in the Upland Elementary School. Lenora was also employed by Kumke Construction, Dutton Lainson, and the Blue Hill Leader before retiring in 1996. On June 14, 1957, Lenora was married to Duane Fredrick Kumke at St. Paul Lutheran church in Hildreth. Their first home was in Campbell, where they were members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church. They were parents of Mariann, Mark and Janet. They moved to Minden in 1962, back to Campbell in 1964 and to Blue Hill in February 1966. Her husband passed away. Lenora was a member of Blue Hill Trinity Lutheran church and LWML, and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Bloodmobile. Preceded in death by her parents; husband (Dec. 15, 2007); daughter, Mariann; siblings, Ruth (Lee) Johnson, William Wittfoth, Delton (Mabel) Kumke, Alice (Loren) Waterbury, Joan (Orville) Kuhlman and Raymond Kumke. Survived by her son Mark (Karen) Kumke; and her daughter, Janet (Daniel) Lonowski; sisters-in-law, Wanda (Raymond) Kumke and Lorna (Jim) Dealey; grandchildren, Emilee (Carter) Pratt, Nicholas Lonowski, Brock Kumke, Kaitlin (Rick) McEntee, Hailey Lonowski, Hannah Lonowski, Derek (Jillian) Lonowski; great-grandsons, Miles and Holden; great-granddaughter, Kinsley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be Sept. 3, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Blue Hill, with Rev. Jeffrey Kuddes officiating. Burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery, Blue Hill. Visitation will be Sept. 2, 2018 at Merten-Butler Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials can be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Donor’s Choice. Merten-Butler Mortuary, Blue Hill, is in charge of arrangements.
