Leo Arthur Strohmyer (sic), the young man who was so severely injured in the football game Saturday afternoon on Iowa Field, died yesterday morning at five o'clock in spite of efforts made by his physicians to prolong his life. The young man had his back broken in the football game Saturday between the high schools of Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Leo Strohmyer was the son of Mr. Joseph Strohmyer, residing on South Dubuque street. He was 20 years of age last March. He is survived by his father and the following brothers and sisters: Hannah, Joseph, Carl and Harry at home and Mrs. Reiland; who resides in the country near here. The Iowa City Board of Education had banned football for seven years as too dangerous to play and only lifted the ban a few weeks before the accident. Leo was injured on the first play of the game. He also played the position of catcher on the H. S. baseball team and threw the hammer for the track & field team.
