Prior to entering the hospital about seven months ago, he spent a few months with his son, Carlos, in Anamosa. Funeral service was conducted Monday, Jan. 17, at 2 p.m. at McNamara funeral home with Rev. John W. Hosmer, pastor of the First Congregational church officiating. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. Casketbearers were Lloyd Darrow, Byron Darrow, Reuben Colton, Glen Guilford, Duane Payne, and Robert Darrow. Mr. Payne was born July 24, 1882 in Nebraska, the son of Frank and Nancy Ross Payne. He spent most of his life in Kansas and Iowa, residing in Hopkinton since 1931. He was married to Nora Darrow at the Monticello Methodist parsonage in 1904. Mr. Payne was a retired carpenter. Surviving are his wife, who makes her home with the only suriving son, Carlos, Anamosa; two granddaughters, Lois Payne, El Centro, Calif., and Nancy Payne, Anamosa, and one brother, Raymond, Hopkinton. Preceeding him in death were two sons, Raymond, who died in infancy, and Leo Paul, who died in 1941. From the Anamosa Journal 1-17-1955 p.1
