Le Matthews was born August 16, 1892, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Matthews, at Annawan, Ill., and died in a Huron hospital June 29, 1957. When an infant he was baptized into the Catholic Faith. The family moved to South Dakota in 1911 and settled in Nance Township. He served with the U.S. Army in World War I and had been an active member of the American Legion Post of Wessington for 38 years. On October 9, 1919, he was married to Blanche Galbreath and they have since made their home in Whiteside township. Mr. Matthews served many years on the Whiteside school and township boards. At the time of his death he was a member of the Wessington Community Church. He is survived by his wife; four sons: Kenneth, Robert, and Donald, all of Wessington, and Lyle, in the Navy stationed at Norman Okla.; one daughter, Mrs. Floyd Rex; six grandchildren; four brothers: Charles, Wessington; John, California; Walter, York, Pa.; and William, Los Angeles; seven sisters: Mrs. Louise Stiner, Huron; Mrs. Ray B—amie, Pipestone, Minn.; Mrs. Emily Grabenstein, Colby, Kan.; Mrs. Toby Borelson, Rapid City; Mrs. Frank Burns, Portland, Wn.; Mrs. Henry Thieman, Wessington; and Mrs. Del Corno, Long Beach, Cal.
