Leo was born near Burnstad on April 24, 1914, the first of eight children of William and Barbara (Ackerman) Sayler. He made Jesus Lord of his life at the age of 12 and faithfully served Him the rest of his life. Leo was raised and educated in a rural school near Wishek through the eighth grade. He farmed with his father until he attended Northwest Bible School in Lemmon, S.D., and was part of the first graduating class. He also attended Lee Bible Training Institute in Cleveland, Tenn. He was the first person to be drafted into the army from Logan County and served from 1941-45, mostly in the British Isles during World War II. He married Viola Froeschle on March 17, 1946, and they made their home in Beulah. Leo worked various jobs over the years, including construction of the Garrison Dam spillway and construction at Minot Air Force Base. He was appreciated as an accomplished concrete finisher. He faithfully served his God teaching Sunday school and Bible studies, as well as serving a time as councilman. He loved the Lord and spent many hours reading His Word. He was a kind and humble man whose life revolved around his family and church. Leo is survived by two daughters, Helen Swanson, Van Buren, Ark., and Bonnie (Darrell) Turner, Heflin, Ala.; five sons, Alvin, Wayne (Eunice) and David, all of Beulah, Glen (Corinne), Colorado Springs, Colo., and William, Bismarck; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and three sisters, Hulda Entzminger and Lillian (Harold) Vilhauer, Fargo, and Erna Frank, McKinney, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one infant son, Milton; two brothers, Wilbert and Albert; and two sisters, Alma Rueb and Esther Baldock. ============================
