Read More	LEO DARTMANN DIES AFTER AUTO ACCIDENT ON CENTER ROAD Car Strikes Guardrail and Post on Bridge Approach Friday Night Leo Francis Dartmann, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Dartmann, just east of Creighton, died at 9:50 o'clock Tuesday night in St. Joseph's Hospital, Sioux City, after suffering fatal injuries Friday night in an accident on the highway this side of Center. He, Elaine Lafrenz and Shirley Seiler of Center and Robert Meugge, who lives south of here, were in the Dartmann car with Muegge driving, taking the girls to their homes, when the car struck soft dirt on the shoulder of the road while rounding a turn and approaching the bridge between the Walter Lafrenz and and Melvin Neumann places. Muegge lost control and the machine plowed into the guardrail and posts and traveled about 12 feet before coming to a stop. The broken railing, a 2x4, apparently struck the upper part of the radiator, glanced upward, smashed the windshield, struck Dartmann, who was in the back seat, then tore out the rear window and casing. Miss Seiler, in the front seat of the car, was able to evade the timber, but young Dartman was struck in the forehead and face. Miss Lafrenz went to the home of her uncle, Walter Lafrenz, nearby, and Dartmann was taken in their home, pending arrival of Dr. W.E. Wright and the Hengstler ambulance from Creighton. When examination revealed the extent of injuries, he was rushed to the Sioux City hospital. Beyond being shaken up and receiving bruises and minor lacerations, none of the others in the car were injured. Leo Francis Dartmann was born July 5, 1925 and was graduated from St. Ludger Academy last spring. Since then he had been helping his father on the farm. Surviving, besides his parents, are three sisters, Helen of Denver, Colo., Dolores and Bernadine and two brothers, Joe and Raymond of the home and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock, Friday morning at St. Ludger Catholic Church with interment in the Catholic Cemetery. ...The Creighton News 29 Feb 1944
