John was 86 years of age having been born February 25, 1923 in rural Ithaca, Nebraska to John and Emma (Behrens) Smith. Leo attended School District #29 and graduated from Wahoo (Nebraska) High School with The Class of 1940. After graduation, he began farming with his father near Ithaca, Nebraska. John was united in marriage to Faith Dech on October 17, 1943 at the home of her parents. Leo continued to farm and later worked at the Wahoo (Nebraska) Livestock Auction, Richter Feed Lot at Mead, Nebraska and also worked as a guard at the Mead (Nebraska) Ordinance Plant. Leo was a former member of the Ithaca (Nebraska) United Methodist Church where he had served as superintendent of the Sunday School and currently Leo was a member of the Wahoo United Methodist Church of Wahoo, Nebraska. He had served on the Saunders County, Nebraska District #29 school board and was a member of the Saunders (Nebraska) County Historical Society. Leo is survived by: his wife of 67 years, Faith Smith of Wahoo, Nebraska; grandson Heath and wife Jaclyn Smith, Wahoo, Nebraska; granddaughters Amanda Smith, Lincoln, Nebraska and Alison Smith, College Station, Texas; great granddaughters, Abigail and McKenna Smith; sister Leone Liliedahl of Wahoo, Nebraska; daughters in law, Bonnie Smith of Lincoln, Nebraska; Roma Smith of Wahoo, Nebraska and a host of friends and relatives. Leo was welcomed into The Heavenly Home: by his parents John and Emma Smith; sons, Alan, Kenneth and Steven Smith.
