Hulseman, 90, founder of the Solo Cup Co. and a longtime resident of Winnetka, will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Sts. Faith Hope and Charity Catholic Church, 191 Linden St., Winnetka. Mr. Hulseman, who died Friday in his home in Los Angeles, turned a small manufacturing plant in an ice house on Chicago's South Side into one of the country's top producers of paper and plastic cups, plates and delicatessen containers. He entered the paper cup business in 1923 as a salesman with Vortex Manufacturing company, then an affiliate of Dixie Cup division of American Can Co. Thirteen years later, Mr. Hulseman founded Solo Cup Co. and remained its chairman until his retirement last year. Mr. Hulseman credited the company's growth to its development of the first automatic paper cup-making machine and World War II. The machine made 250 cups a minute from a roll of paper. During the war, glass and labor were in short supply, forcing restaurant owners to turn to paper cups. Picnickers and amusement parks also contributed to the growth of the industry. Solo Cup also pioneered the plastic coating now found in hot drink cups. Today, Solo boasts of plants throughout the U.S. and has several overseas distribution locations. During the 1950s, Mr. Hulseman developed Premore Productions Inc., a firm that began producing and marketing records and was later expanded to include the production and post-production of television shows. Besides his manufacturing activities, Mr. Hulseman was a devotee of polo and golf. Considered an ''iron man'' by his coworkers, Mr. Hulseman led his team, which included his two sons, through successful competitions in Illinois, California and Florida. Mr. Hulseman is survived by two sons, John and Robert; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters; and 2 brothers.Leo Hulseman was a former employee of the Dixie Co. in the 1930s. Leo created the "Solo Cup," a paper cone he made at his home and sold to bottled-water companies. He founded the Solo Cup Company in 1936. He came up with other products like wax-coated cups and the plastic Cozy Cup. Leo was an active Polo player. A few years afters Leo died Premore Inc was closed. Husband of singer Dora Hall.
