Description	:	Leo J. Belanger, 89, formerly of Milan NH, passed away March 30, 2007, at the St. Vincent DePaul Healthcare Center in Berlin NH where he had been residing for the last three months. He was born in Berlin on August 29, 1917, a son of the late Joseph and Cordelia (Fortier) Belanger. He attended local schools, and later enlisted in the United States Army. Leo honorably served his country during World War II serving in the Rhineland. He was wounded during his service and was awarded the Purple Heart. Belanger, 89, formerly of Milan NH, passed away March 30, 2007, at the St. Vincent DePaul Healthcare Center in Berlin NH where he had been residing for the last three months. He was born in Berlin on August 29, 1917, a son of the late Joseph and Cordelia (Fortier) Belanger. He attended local schools, and later enlisted in the United States Army. Leo honorably served his country during World War II serving in the Rhineland. He was wounded during his service and was awarded the Purple Heart. He had also served over two years with the National Guard. Following his military service, Leo moved to Connecticut where he worked as a carpenter. He had two sons, and resided in Connecticut for many years before relocating to Gilead ME, where he and his wife Anna operated Leo and Anna's Restaurant. They also rented cabins and camp sites at their campground. Leo enjoyed traveling and visited Florida, Hawaii, and Canada. He also liked to play cards. He was a communicant of St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish and was a member of the VFW White Mountain Post 2520. He is survived by his wife of over 28 years, Anna; sons Leo, Jr., and Bobby Belanger; step-daughters Therese Beaudry of Berlin, and Lucille Boutin and husband Louis of West Milan NH; brother Robert Belanger of North Conway NH; sisters Jeannine Glover and Therese Riordan; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and seven sisters.
