He was born August 30, 1931 on the family farm in Howells, Nebraska to Leo Lawrence and Mary Ann Schlautman Wolff. He was born August 30, 1931 on the family farm in Howells, Nebraska to Leo Lawrence and Mary Ann Schlautman Wolff. In 1935 the family moved to a farm north of Morrill, Nebraska and in 1944 they settled in Cheyenne County, first south of Colton and then west of Sidney. Leo graduated from St. Patrick's Academy with the class of 1949.While attending a dance in the spring of 1956 he met Nancy Brennan, and the couple was married October 5, 1956 in Hardin, Montana. They moved to a farm west of Sidney where they lived for five years and had their first four children, Daniel, Stephen, Michael, and Christina. In 1961 the family moved to a farm southeast of Gurley where two more children, Gregory and Catherine, joined the family and they resided for the next 30 years. Leo had a lifelong love of farming that continued until he was unable to work. He was also an excellent carpenter, helping build or remodel several of his children's homes, as well as working on many other carpentry jobs. He dearly loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attended all of their school activities. Leo served two years in the National Guard and was active in many civic organizations including Farm Bureau, Gurley Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, and St. Patrick's Parish Council, holding offices in each of them.Leo is survived by his wife Nancy; children Daniel and Teri Wolff, Stephen and Paula Wolff, Michael and Cathy Wolff, Christina and Phillip Stevens, Gregory and Lori Wolff, and Catherine and fiancé Richard Frerichs all of Sidney. Grandchildren are Matthew and Jessica Wolff, Chelsea and Shawn Johnson, Megan and Jake Havorka, Ben Wolff and fiancé Morgan Miller, Stephanie Hajek, Whitney Wolff, Baylee Wolff, Elaina Wolff, Conner Wolff, Morgan Wolff; two step-grandchildren Sarah and Rachel Rufenacht; seven great-grandchildren Kyra and Logan Johnson, Rayah Wolff and Bently Havorka, Kaydence Wolff, Drake Hajek, Haidyn Wolff; three step-great-grandchildren, Jaiden Schilreff, Ariana Rufenacht and Adalyn Buchholz; two sisters Colette Schmitt of Sidney, and Mary Ann and Wayne Lukassen of Kimball; one sister-in-law Frances Block of Lodgepole; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Clara Frei, Sr. Leonette Wolff, and Odelia Benzel; brother, Paul Wolff; and grandson Brennan Wolff.
