Description	:	Leo M. Volk, 77 a life long resident of the Devils Lake area died on Sunday morning, December 11, 2005 at Mercy Hospital, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial for Leo will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Fr. C. F. Wilhelm will celebrate the Mass and burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call at the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. led by the Knights of Columbus and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. The Honor Guard will be provided by the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Visitation on Thursday will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Serving as Casket Bearers for Leo will be: David Elsperger, Dick Elsperger, Joe Armstrong, Terry Wallace, LeRoy Lunde, Mike Frelich, Duane Reiger, David Madson and Rick Moen Music will be provided by: Peter A. Hager, Soloist and JoDee Lagein, Organist Reading the Scriptures will be: Leo's daughters, Kelly and Tammy Gift Bearers will be: Pam and Jaqi Myhre Leo Michael Volk was born on September 13, 1928 in Ramsey County, rural Devils Lake, ND the son of Thomas and Marcella (Lemaire) Volk. He was reared and educated in the Webster area, attending Webster School. On September 19, 1950 at Fargo, ND Leo enlisted in the United States Army serving his country during the Korean War with the 838th Engineering Company A Battalion. He was honorably discharged at Fort Benning, Georgia on July 27, 1951. He returned to the Webster area and worked for Soper Construction for 4 years. Leo was united in marriage to Virginia Elsperger on October 24, 1953 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They established their home on the farm east of Webster where they lived, worked and raised their family for the next 38 years. In 1991, after retiring from farming, Leo worked as a Maintenance Technician for Metro Plains (formerly Garsten Management) for 13 years. Leo was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served on the Parish Council, the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, a life member of the Elks Lodge, American Legion and member and past President of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Leo was an avid gardener, planting huge gardens and spending hours tending and canning his produce. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Leo is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Virginia Daughters: Tammy L.A. Volk and her husband, John Kelly of Oakland, California Kelly Volk Myhre of Plymouth, Minnesota Granddaughters; Pam and Jaqi Myhre Sisters and Brothers-In-Law: Loretta and Pat O'Connell, St. Louis Park, Minnesota Mary and Jerry Riley, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota Kathy and Earl Obermiller, Mesa, Arizona Brothers and Sisters-In-Law: Jim and Janet Volk, Seattle, Washington Dick and Kaye Volk, Webster, ND David and Judy Volk, Marionville, Missouri Many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Wally Wallace and Margaret Barstad; brothers, Frank and Tom Volk.
