Leo is the son of George and Anna Schmitz Langenfeld; Helen is the daughter of Godfried and Mary Krovers Wordekemper of Vail, Iowa. Their son, George, was born May 2, 1959. On March 24, 1990, George married Julie Pauley. Their children are Trevor, Tori and Cali. After graduation from St. Boniface High School, Leo worked as a hired man. He entered the service in 1942 and was discharged in 1946. Following his discharge, he farmed with his brother until his marriage to Helen. Leo served as an ASCS member for Westphalia and Lincoln Township and was a member of the Credit Union board for 27 years. He served on the board for Westphalia Farmers Mutual Insurance for 30 years, nine years as president. He was a member of the Westphalia Volunteer Fire Department. The couple retired from farming in 1985 and moved to Harlan in 1990. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * obit Leo N. Langenfeld, 88 May 6, 1913 ~ Aug. 19, 2001 HARLAN ~ Leo Nicholas Langenfeld, son of George and Anna (Schmitz) Langenfeld, was born May 6, 1913, on a farm north of Earling. He was baptized at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earling. In 1914, the family moved to a farm north of Westphalia. Leo received his First Holy Communion and was confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia. He graduated from St. Boniface Catholic School also in Westphalia. Upon grauation, he worked on the famiy farm. He served in the United States Army from August of 1942 until February of 1946. He was a member of the Westphalia Fire Department, a board member of Mutual Insurance of Westphalia, the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service of Lincoln and Westphalia Townships, the school board of Lincoln Township and the Westphalia Credit Union. Feb. 9, 1955, he married Helen Wordekemper at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia. After their marriage, they resided on a farmstead south of Westphalia. In 1985, they moved to a fann two miles west of Harlan, until they moved in 1900 to Harlan. He died Aug. 19, 2001, at Myrtue Memorial Hospital at age 88 years, three months and 13 days. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by by four sisters, Irene (Ray) Domino, Alethea, Theresa Wageman and Lolly (Werner) Gross, and one brother, Edwin Langenfeld. He is survived by his wife, Helen of Harlan; his son, George Langenfeld (Julie ) of Harlan; three grandchildren, Trecor, Tori and Cali, all of Harlan; his brothers ard sisters, Ray Langenfeld (Marie) of Ute; Helen (Ben) Seimers of Dow City; Greg Langenfeld (Theresa) of Dunlap; Linus Langenfeld (Joie) of Dow City; Cleta (Carl} Pitts of 0skaloosa; Dee (Norman) Coenen of Woodward; brother~in~law, Elmer Wageman (Margaret) of Defiance; nieces and nephews and other relaives. A Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated Aug. 22, 2001, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, with Rev. Jack McClure, C.P.P.S. celebrant and Rev. Michael G. Peters concelebrant. Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery in Westphalia, wih Dale Gross, Dean Wordekemper, Paul Pitts, Russ Coenen, Linda Bruck and Dick Gross casket bearers. Pauley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
