Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 1994, St. Agnes Church, Kenmare, with burial in St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery, Kenmare. Officiating for the service was Rev. Peter Kunnalakat. Joan Larson, Organist. Paul Carlson, soloist. Special tape “If You Could See Me Now”. Thompson-Larson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He was born July 20, 1913, near Kenmare, on the family farm, a son of Joseph and Anna (Fromloth) Schmit. He was reared in the area and graduated from Kenmare High School. As a young man he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and later purchased the family farm in Sauk Prairie Township, Ward County. He married Naomi Eby on September 24, 1942. Following their marriage they lived and farmed in Sauk Township, Ward County until 1949 when they moved to Kenmare but continued to maintain their farming interests. In 1962 they purchased the St. Agnes Convent and restored it into a family home where they have since resided. He worked in a coal mine and for Ward County ASCS office throughout the years, along with farming until his retirement. He was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was also active at hunting, fishing and served on various boards and committees. At one time he was active in many square dance clubs. He is survived by his wife Naomi, Kenmare; sons, Andrew (Maggie), Minot; James (Denae), Jerrold (Connie), Michael (Donna), all Kenmare; Robert (Donna), Spokane, Washington; daughter Darla (Roger) Schaeffer, Minot; Rita (Robert) Myre, Willows, California; Coletta (Robert) McWatters, Veradale, Washington; Marla (Larry) Schafer, Vellville, Ohio; and Luana (Jon) Gustafson, Minot. 30 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward, Walter, and Cyril, all Lisbon; sister, Leona Weist, Fargo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. From the scrapbook of Lillian Lundgren Zeltinger who passed away in 1997.
