Jan 8, 1982 - Carroll Daily Times - Mass of the Christian Burial for Leo P. Daeges, 76, of Carroll, will be concelebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 9, at Holy Spirit church with the Revs. Roger Augustine, V.F., and Jerome Cosgrove officiating. Mr. Daeges, a retired farmer and dance orchestra director, died at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, at St. Anthony Nursing Home where he had been a resident for the past 14 months. Fr. Cosgrove will be lector, a niece Karen Amunson and her two sons Patrick and Andrew will be gift bearers. Serving as pallbearers will be Leonard Schechinger, Roger and John Parrott, Dr. Karl Jauch, Harry Rose, and John Zimmerman Jr. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2 p.m. Friday. Rosaries will be recited at 3 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A scriptural prayer service will be conducted by Holy Spirit parish at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Daeges is survived by his wife, Veda, Carroll; a daughter Mrs. Mark (Nancy) Harper, Buffalo, Minn.; a son David Daeges, Litchfield, Minn.; four grandchildren; two sisters: Zita Hulsebus, Carroll, and Zella Daeges, San Francisco, Calif.; two stepsons: John and Roger Parrott, Jackson Hole, Wyo.; three stepdaughters: Barbara Jauch, Waterloo; Marilee Michael, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Linda Klinzman, Jackson Hole, Wyo.; 10 step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Blendena on May 2, 1965; a brother Albert; and a sister Monica. Mr. Daeges was born February 27, 1905, at Earling, Iowa, a son of Frank and Catherine Casey Daeges. He spent his young years in the Earling and Sac City areas. In 1920 he came with his parents to the Halbur area. From 1929 to 1936 he played with the Pete Kuhl Four Aces group from Manning, traveling throughout the upper Midwest. He was married to Blendena Bunting on November 23, 1936, at Fort Dodge. After their marriage they made their home in Carroll. He farmed and organized his own dance orchestra which became a popular attraction at many area events until disbanding in 1970. On September 2, 1973, he was married to Veda Parrott at Waterloo. Their home is at 512 North East street in Carroll. He was a member of Holy Spirit parish.
