Leo Robert Johnston was born Jan 14, 1927, in Huron, to Robert E and Erma D (Florence) Johnston. He attended Huron schools. He joined the Merchant Marines, served during World War II and later joined the U.S Army. After his discharge he returned to Huron. On Aug 2, 1949, he married Agnes Gainor Van Pelt at Miller. They made their home in Huron, where he was employed with Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola bottling companies as production manager until he retired in March 1983 because of ill health. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge, VFW and American Legion. He served as treasurer f a committee to combat Huntington's disease. Survivors include his wife of Huron; one son Phil Johnston of Clovis, NM; three daughters, Mrs Nick (Connie) Brod of Akron, Ohio, Mrs Jim (Erma) Wilson of Huron and Dawn Jensen of Vermllion; 10 grandchildren, three brothers, Lloyd Johnston of San Antonio, Texas, Cleo Johnston of Huron and Dr Lawrence Johnston of Fort Collins, Colo; three sisters, Mrs Robert (Evelyn) Shaw of San Diego, Calif, Verna Bolton of Lawndale, Calif, and Ruth Crawford of Sun City, Calif. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jean Johnston on July 24, 1974, his parents, one brother, Orville, one grandchild and a son-in-law, Larry Jensen, June 12, 1989.
