Description	:	Leon August Fred Gruenewald, 92, died at Dougerty Hospice House in Sioux Falls on January 2, 2012. Leon Gruenewald was born on June 13, 1919 to William and May (Gall) Gruenewald on the farm near Corsica, SD. He attended Plainview Country School. He was baptized and was a life long member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Corsica, SD. He was drafted into the Army in June of 1942 serving during WWII. Leon married Lenora Niewenhuis on June 10, 1942. To this union 5 children were born. Leon was a farmer and a cattleman. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.... He is survived 4 children, Robert Gruenewald of Sioux Falls, SD; Elroy (Sheryl) Gruenewald of Mithell, SD; Londa Gae Robinson of Phoenix, Az; and Linette Ray (Roger) Hoekstra of Idaho Falls, ID; 9 grandchildren, Rhonda, Douglas, Deanna, Jodi, Chad, Wade, Brooke, Aaron, Ryan. 2 step-grandchildren, Ben and Zachary Hoekstra, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Ronald Leon Gruenewald, 5 brothers, Orville, William, Dean, and Ferris, and sister, Lorraine.
