Dye McLachlan 1892 – 1919 ✿ Ada Dye 1904 – 1905 Sudden Death Comes to Leon Dye March 14 Strokes Cause Death; Funeral Rites Friday. Leon E. Dye, 512 Grove street, resident here for 45 years, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning at 6:45 o'clock following a paralytic stroke. He had been in apparent good health until two weeks ago Wednesday when he suffered a heart attack which put him to bed. It was deemed best that he remain there until thoroughly recuperated. Monday of this week he suffered a stroke about one o'clock in the afternoon. The second stroke occurred the following day at 11:30 o'clock in the morning. He lapsed into unconsciousness, and gradually slipped until the end took place. He was in his 64th year.. Funeral Services. Funeral rites will take place Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the Cobb funeral home and at 2:30 at the Grace M. E. church with Dr. H. E. Hutchinson officiating. The Spencer chapter of the I.O.O.F. will take part in the services. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery. Acting as pall bearers will be Mayor W.H. Lewis, N.C. Rindsig, F.J. O'Brien, G.R. Spletter, Dr. C.E. Golly and Emmet Becket.. Won Many Friends. Mr. Dye, a friend cherished by numberless residents in the community, manifested his true character in his many acts of kindness and fellowship. He had been a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for over 30 years, and had won the esteem of members through his many friendly contacts. A native of Cedarville, Herkimer county, New York, Mr. Dye was the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Dye.. He was born June 1, 1869, and when eight years of age the family moved to Spring Green, Wis. They came to Spencer in 1888. Returning to Wisconsin, he was united in marriage April 7, 1889, to Miss Alma Hoke of Sextonville. He returned to Spencer with his bride and they established their first home. A few years later his parents located in Spencer and established a jewelry store, Mr. Dye assisting for some time. He then took a position in the Sully department store as manager of the grocery department. He also managed a branch store at Spirit Lake. Previous to going to Spirit Lake he purchased the Zink grocery store which he and his wife operated for a number of years.. Shoe Salesman. He then disposed of this property and the family moved to Sioux City and he took a position as traveling salesman for the George B. Adams Shoe company. In 1916 the family moved to Rock Rapids where in company with his son-in-law, Fred McLachlan, they purchased a general store, Mr. Dye in charge of the grocery department. In 1926 Mr. Dye and wife returned to Spencer and he followed the occupation of sign writer.. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dye, Leo A., now a traveling salesman with headquarters at Joliet, Ill., Ada, who died in 1905 at the age of one year, and Olive Nettie who married Fred McLachlan and who later passed away April 2, 1919, at Rock Rapids.. Mourn His Passing. Other relatives mourning his passing are his widow, Mrs. Dye, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Leo Dye of Joliet, Ill., two granddaughters, Miss Margaret McLachland [sic] of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Miss Dorothy Dye of Joliet, Ill., a son-in-law, Fred McLachlan, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Nettie Hanna, 540 West Fifth street.
