He was born July 14, 1931 to Kenneth and Adalia Elsey on a farm near Miltonvale and was a resident of Webber, Kan., Topeka, Kan., Concordia, Kan., and Nora before moving to Nelson. He attended high school in Concordia. After enlisting in the Air Force in January 1951, he served one year in Korea. He was mechanic for several years and a rural mail carrier for 37 years. On Nov. 8, 1952, he married Virginia Stiles, Nora, in the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Superior. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Nelson, for 40 years and served as lector and CYO teacher. He belonged to the Nelson VFW Post, Elk Creek Country Club and Rural Mail Carriers Association and was a former city council member and Nelson mayor. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Virginia, Nelson; a son, Wayne; and a daughter, Mrs. Mark West (Rhonda), all of Lincoln, Neb.; two sisters: Mrs. Ron Remily (Armella), Hemet, Calif., and Mrs. Mike Johnson (Patricia), Concordia; two brothers, Paul Dean, Glenwood, Iowa, and Richard, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four grandchildren. Services were held Monday from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Superior, with Father Frank Machovec officiating. Burial will (sic) full military rites by the Nelson VFW and American Legion Posts was in the Nelson Cemetery. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson was in charge of arrangements. Rosary services were held Sunday from Klawitter-Price Funeral Home Chapel.
