Description	:	Leona Anna Schares, 90, of Dunkerton, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, of natural causes. She was born April 22, 1920, in Dunkerton, daughter of Henry William and Rose Risse Meier. She married Norbert Peter Schares on Feb. 18, 1941, at St. Francis Catholic Church-Barclay, rural Dunkerton. He died in 1982. Mrs. Schares graduated from Dunkerton High School in 1937. She and her husband farmed, and she was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church-Barclay. She was born April 22, 1920, in Dunkerton, daughter of Henry William and Rose Risse Meier. She married Norbert Peter Schares on Feb. 18, 1941, at St. Francis Catholic Church-Barclay, rural Dunkerton. He died in 1982. Mrs. Schares graduated from Dunkerton High School in 1937. She and her husband farmed, and she was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church-Barclay. Survived by: five sons, George of Hazleton, Michael (Amanda), Andrew (Donna) and Jeffrey (Debi), all of Dunkerton, and William of Muscatine; eight daughters, Pat (I. James) Ehr, JoAnn (William) Weber, Dorothy (Dennis) Adamson and Marge (Rich) Grady, all of Dunkerton, Marilyn (Ronald) Steggall and Carol (Lauren) Brandt, both of Fairbank, Joyce Rubalcaba of Stockton, Calif., and Jeanette (Kevin) Steffen of Waterloo; 38 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Pauline Weber of Cedar Falls and Bernice Heuer and Esther Kajewski, both of Waterloo. Preceded in death by: a son, Thomas; and two grandchildren, Eddie Schares and Brenda Ehr-Jackson. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Catholic Church-Barclay, rural Dunkerton, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Kenneth C. Stecher will serve as celebrant. Public visitation from 3 to 8 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Jesup, with a 4 p.m. parish rosary and a 6:45 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Memorials: may be directed to the family. Leona was known for her good and caring deeds toward others. She loved growing flowers and sewing.
