Description	:	Leona Wayrynen, age 72, of Huron, died Friday, December 8, 2006, at her home. Her funeral service was Thursday, December 14, 2006, at the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. William Holmes officiating. Burial was in the Garfield Cemetery in Bryant on Saturday, December 16, 2006, with the Pastoral Staff of the Faith Mennonite Church officiating. Burial was in the Garfield Cemetery in Bryant on Saturday, December 16, 2006, with the Pastoral Staff of the Faith Mennonite Church officiating. Visitation was at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Keith Kuschel, Jason Wayrynen, Bradley Madsen, Mark McDermaid, Lon McWhorter, and Kenneth Wallenstein. Leona Avis Braaten was born on September 20, 1934, on the family farm at rural Hayti, South Dakota, to Henry and Ethel (Horswill) Braaten. She grew up on the farm, and received her education at Hamlin County Cleveland #2 country school; she then worked in the Watertown area. Leona married Kenneth Robert Duane Wayrynen on August 21, 1953 at Watertown, South Dakota. The family lived in the Bryant area, then moved to California and lived in the Los Angeles area, where Leona cleaned houses. In 1965, the family moved back to Mitchell, where Leona cooked at several restaurants. From 1969 to 1978, the family then lived at Lake Preston, where Leona worked at Susie's Cafe. The family moved to Huron in 1978, Leona worked at the Huron Regional Medical Center in the dietary department, as well as taking care of people in their homes. Leona was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She was an AA sponsor for years, and enjoyed helping people. Leona loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by two sons, Douglas, in infancy, and Kevin August 20, 1985; two brothers, Robert Braaten, and Juel Braaten; and six sisters Doris Snyder, Evangeline Braaten, Bernice Schiernbeck, Margie Oliger, Lillian Braaten, and Joanne Braaten. Grateful for sharing her life are her children, Kathleen Wayrynen, of Presho, Melinda Mansfield, of Rapid City, Patricia Kuschel, of Iroquois, Matthew Wayrynen, of Huron, Jennifer Wayrynen, of Chamberlain; seven grandchildren, Bobbi Jo Buchholz, Bradley Madsen, Jason Lee Paul Wayrynen, Keith Michael Kuschel, Mitchell Douglas Kuschel, Trysta Zeman, and Tynia Zeman; three great grandchildren, Braden, Madalyn, and Korbin; two sisters, Gertrude Holland, of Edmonds, Washington, and Joyce Laughlin, of Bryant.
