Description	:	Leona Katherine Schmitt of Early was born Nov. 1, 1926 in Wall Lake to Anthony V. and Anna M. (Berning) Ziegmann. Leona graduated from Odebolt High School and, after receiving her teaching certificate, she taught in the Sac County country school system. On June 2, 1948 she was united in marriage to Leo F. Schmitt at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake. They lived in the Early area where they were engaged in farming. Leo passed away on Nov. 21, 1998. Leona was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Ladies Society and the Catholic Daughters of America. Leo passed away on Nov. 21, 1998. Leona was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Ladies Society and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was an avid bridge player, volunteered in numerous church projects and loved cooking and entertaining. She will be missed dearly by her family. She is survived by a son and his wife, Dennis and Terri of Early; two daughters and their husbands, Deborah and Steve Gengler of Sioux City and Diane and Jeff Livingston of Texarkana, Tx.; six grandchildren; three sisters and their husbands, Dorothy and James Van Vleet of Hutchinson, Ks., Agnes and Frank Boyd of Storm Lake and Alice and LuVern Snyder of Schaller; and many nieces and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; a son, David; three brothers, Arnold, Raymond and Joseph; and two sisters, Lillian and Helen.
