WamPler Effie Leona Broughton was born Logan county, Illinois, September 9, 1872, and departed this life February 21, 1925, aged 52 years 5 months and 12 days. In the spring of 1883 her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Broughton and their family moved to Kansas and located on a farm about two and one-half miles north of Walnut. December 31, 1891 she became the wife of E. B. Wampler and to them three children were born, Mrs. Anna Elledge, Carl and Don Wampler. Mrs. Elledge died last fall. Mrs. Wampler was converted and united with the Methodist Church when a young girl and her life has been useful and beautiful in Christian service. As wife and mother she was gentle and loving and happiness reigned in the home. She was a truce friend and the many beautiful flowers and the words of comfort spoken betoken the high esteem in which she was held. She was patient and cheerful in her long illness and though she longed to get well that she might be with her family she was prepared when the summons came to enter her eternal home. She leaves sweet and tender memories with the husband, sons, brother and sisters, and other relatives and friends who mourn her death. Mrs. Wampler was the eldest child in a family of nine children. The living are, Mrs. Minnie Coghill, Walnut, Kansas; Mrs. Cora Jones, Girard, Kansas; William Broughton, Walnut, Kansas; Mrs. Pearl Markham, Walnut, Kansas; Mrs. Daisy Cobb, Ottumwa, Iowa; Mrs. Della Pool, Eldon, Iowa; Mrs. Stella Smith, Walnut, Kansas; Frank Broughton and the father and mother have passed on. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church (Monday afternoon, February 23. Reve. F. M. Taylor of Weir preached the funeral sermon and was assisted in the services by the pastor, Rev. J. R. Rusk. There was a large congregation, many standing outside the church, who came to pay a last tribute. Interment was mad in the Walnut cemetery in a lot near her daughter Anna. Mrs. Daisy Cobb of Ottum, Iowa, her sister and Mrs. Wm. Broughton of Pittsburg, her stepmother, attended the funeral, besides many old neighbors and friends from nearby towns. CARD OF THANKS We wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to all who were so kind and thoughtful to us in our sad bereavement, and we thank those who sent the beautiful flowers. E. B. Wampler and Children The Walnut Eagle (Walnut, Kansas) 06 Mar 1925, Fri Resolutions Wheres, The angel of death has taken from our midst our dearly beloved sister, Mrs. Leona Wampler therefore be it Resolved that we, the members of Walnut Rebecca lodge No. 405, tender to the bereaved relatives and friends, our deepest sympathy in this hour of sorrow, and we trust they may be given strength to bear their loss. We commend them to one who is always a friend and comforter. Resolved, That while we grieve over the loss of our beloved sister, we realize that God, in his infinite wisdom and mercy does all things for the best. Resolved, That these resolutions be published in the Walnut Eagle, spread upon the minutes of our lodge, and a copy sent to the bereaved family.
