Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, with Ellen Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery at St. Paul. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Mrs. Caldon was born on Nov. 12, 1915, at St. Paul to Charles and Anna (Soff) Roshone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milfred Caldon, in 1975. Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter, Jackie Nielsen of St. Libory. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Terry and Barb Nielsen of St. Libory, Randy and Val Nielsen of Grand Island and Kay and Rod Wichmann of St. Libory; seven great-grandchildren, Justin and Toni Nielsen, Jason Nielsen, Brandon Nielsen, Nichole Nielsen, Kendra Wichmann, Bryce Wichmann and Cortney Wichmann; and a great-great-granddaughter, Allison Marie Nielsen. Leona attended District No. 15 rural school and graduated from St. Paul High School. She then did domestic work for several St. Paul families. She also worked at the Top Hat Café, Clarence and Mamie Leth's café and the St. Paul Cleaners. She later married Milfred Caldon and the couple lived in Lincoln. She worked at Miller and Paine, the Regional Center and Irving School in the kitchen for many years. In 1991, she moved to Grand Island, where she did volunteer work. In 2002, she moved to the Parkside Plaza in St. Paul and to Matelyn Retirement Community in 2004. In January 2006, she moved to Heritage Living Center. She enjoyed gardening and baking and was known for her kolaches. She made many quilts and was an avid Nebraska football fan. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in St. Paul. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Mick Nielsen; a great-grandson, Jeremy Nielsen; a brother, Dan Roshone; and three sisters, Venice Rice, Mary Anne Bateman and Charlotte Rosenberg. Memorials are suggested to the church or the Howard County Community Hospital.
