Description	:	Leona Stiffler age 88 of Monticello died Friday morning, November 7, 2008 at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11:00 Monday morning, November 10, 2008 at the Peace United Church of Christ Monticello with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Rev. Vernon, Marlene and Kenny Like, Monticello. She was preceded in death by her Parents, her husband Edwin, a son Keith and a grandson Matt, her brother Russell Etten and a sister Lucille Day. Leona G. Etten was born July 2, 1920 in Lovell Township, Jones County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Alfred and Geneva Like, Etten. Leona graduated from the Monticello Community Schools in 1938. She later worked as a housekeeper for the Nagel Family. Leona G. Etten and Edwin Stiffler were married December 14, 1939 at the Peace United Church of Christ. The couple farmed in the Monticello and Hopkinton Communities until 1956 when they purchased a farm North of Anamosa. Edwin preceded her in death on July 6, 1987. Leona continued to live on the farm until 1999 when she moved to Monticello. Her health caused her to move to the care center in 2005. Leona was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ. She was also a long time member of the Cass Homemakers. She was the last remaining member of a card club that started in the 1940s. Leona was a great cook and an avid gardener. She often had 3 large gardens and would sell strawberries to Tyler and Downing Grocery. Leona was a farmer at heart. She enjoyed the years farming with Edwin and after his death with her son Paul. She was a loving and caring, mother, grandmother and friend Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
