She was raised on a farm near Staplehurst, graduated from Seward High School & attended Concordia College. She then taught in a one roon school near Scrivner. On 1 Sep 1942, she marrried Laurence Verne McGowan at Ulysses. The couple farmed in the Staplehrst-Ulysses area for more than 27 years. They moved to Staplehurst in 1969. Mrs. McGowan was a housewife and homemaker. She loved to write poetry and kept a diary about her family for many years.... On 1 Sep 1942, she marrried Laurence Verne McGowan at Ulysses. The couple farmed in the Staplehrst-Ulysses area for more than 27 years. They moved to Staplehurst in 1969. Mrs. McGowan was a housewife and homemaker. She loved to write poetry and kept a diary about her family for many years. She wrote the lyrics for the Nebraska Flying Farmers Song, for which whe received an award. She was also a teacher's aide, a nurse's aide and a physical therapist's aide at Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Staplehurst Women's Community Club, the Ulysses Extension Club, served as a 4-H leader and was active in church & community affairs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence, in 1975 and a brother, Donald Ringler. Survivors include her daughters & sons-in-law, Jeanne & Bernard Hain of Bellwood, Judy & Mark Haley of Lincoln & Julie & Clay Tucker of Staplehurst; sons & daughter-in-law, Jim & Sue McGowan of Schulyer & Jon McGowan of Omaha; brothers & sisters-in-law, Wilber & Eda Ringler of Manhattan, KS, & Robert & Louise Ringler of Staplehurst; sister-in-law Phyllis Matthews of Omaha; 14 grand children, 3 step-grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and an aunt. Funeral services were at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with burial at Seward Cemetery.
