Salem officiating. Burial at Hecla Cemetery at 2:00pm, Hecla, SD. Leona died Friday, November 11, 2016, at Sanford Hospital Webster. Leona Deahl was born January 31, 1933 to Jacob and Elizabeth (Heyd) Deahl at their home in Long Lake, SD. This is where she attended country school. Leone was united in marriage to Jerry Head on April 16, 1950 in North Carolina where Jerry was stationed in the Navy. They remained there a short time before returning to South Dakota. Leone waitressed at Dan's Café and at the Starlight Café in Aberdeen. She later went on to show off her cooking skills at Lagers Inn where her knepfla soup, barbeques, and potato salad were a hit. Leone retired from Lagers and later went on to work at Wendy's part time to keep herself busy. Jerry worked nights, which worked well for shuffling the grandkids down during the day to see grandma and get a Frosty. Leone had many enjoyments, one of her favorites was baking for her grandkids. She was also a very accomplished fisherman, usually out-fishing everyone, including Jerry. When she wasn't out in the boat on Elm Lake, she would keep busy working on crafts. Few people could grow plums and make jelly like Leone. Her love of animals was outshined only by the love she had for her family. Jerry and Leona worshiped at the First Baptist Church in Aberdeen. Grateful for having shared Leona's life are her daughters: Wanda (Marvin) Reszler, Rita (Leonard) Voeller, and Susan (Isaac) Waldner; daughter-in-law, Ann Heilman; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Preceding Leona in death are her husband Jerry; son, Ricky; infant twins, Joseph and Josephine; parents, Jacob and Elizabeth Deahl; grandsons: Erick Head and Ryan Voeller; sister, Edna Neuharth; and brother, Edwin Deahl. www.spitzerfuneralhome.com - Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home
