Description	:	Funeral services for Leona Podewils, 78, of Carnarvon were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. Pastor Roger Carlisle officiated. Miss Podewils passed away at Loring Hospital in Sac City on Friday, Sept. 17. Music was by organist Roland Erickson and congregational singing. Helen Rohde, Marge Stickrod and Darlene Dreessen were in charge of floral arrangements. Pallbearers were Alvin Mau, Eugene Mau, Norman Bauer, Dick Petschauer, Keith Erickson and Richard Schwarzkopf. Leona Margaret Podewils was born at home in Sac County, Ia., on September 6, 1921, the daughter of Herman and Rosina Mau Podewils. She was batized at Peace Lutheran Church by the Rev. Schwidder on October 16. 1921. She renewed that baptismal vow through the rite of Confirmation on April 5, 1936, also at Peace Lutheran. She lived by Carnarvon all of her life and was graduated from the eighth grade. Miss Podewils was a self-employed seamstress. She was a life-long member of Peace Lutheran Church. She loved gardening and taking care of flowers. Survivors include a brother, Alfred Podewils of Lake View; a nephew, Larry Podewils (and Jane Ann) of Carnarvon; Larry's and Jane Ann's children: Belinda, Nancy, Kenny and Crystal; and a niece, Phyllis Podewils of Lake View. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Caroline Levine.
