She was born on May 28, 1932, in Caswell, ME, the daughter of Jonas and Margaret (Burgoyne) Finnemore. Leona spent her childhood in Limestone, ME, before she and her family moved to Atkinson her junior year of high school. She graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1951. Read More	Sebec - Leona Mae Finnemore Dow, 88, passed at home early morning Saturday, April 17, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 28, 1932, in Caswell, ME, the daughter of Jonas and Margaret (Burgoyne) Finnemore. Leona spent her childhood in Limestone, ME, before she and her family moved to Atkinson her junior year of high school. She graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1951. She met the love of her life, Lewis Dow, in August 1950. They were married the following August, and shared more than 67 happy years of marriage. Leona was a caregiver for her husband when Lew took sick in their final years together, before he passed in November 2019. Once the children were in school, Leona held various positions in manufacturing, banking and retail. Her love for the outdoors kept her active with her family all her life. She was always playing tennis, softball, golf or fishing with the kids in the summertime. Leona was proud to be chosen to fly in a Red Baron biplane, and received a certificate for being Honorary Ground Crew Member of the Red Baron Stearman Squadron from General Aviation in Bangor, ME. Leona never failed to share her talents by teaching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to cook, sew and knit. After retirement, she would plan an adventure or project for when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited. She always looked forward to the annual family gatherings on Memorial Day weekend and at Christmastime. Her favorite time of year was spring when she could get out in her flower gardens; prepping them to flourish so she could enjoy them all summer. As a long standing, active member in the Methodist church, Leona served on various committees and was influential in fund raising projects. As a member of the MIOSAC GFWC, she was instrumental in the Pinwheel project, awareness to prevent child abuse. Leona was an avid fan of whichever sports teams her grandchildren participated in, and all other school activities. She was also a faithful fan of Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. She was very active, independent and strong. She is survived by four children, Deborah Dyer and her husband, Dennis, of Dover-Foxcroft, Judy Dow and her spouse, Deb Dagnan, of Sebec, Shirley Manzo and her husband, Thomas, of Maricopa, AZ, and Lewis H. Dow III and his significant other, Renee Tash, of Millinocket. Leona also leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss her beyond words. Gram, Grammy or GiGi, as she was lovingly called, held a special place in her heart for each one of them. She is also survived by her sister, Meda Durepo of Lee, NH, and many nieces and nephews. Leona touched the hearts of many and will be missed. In lieu of flowers, donations in Leona's memory may be made to the Lafayette Family Cancer Institute, 33 Whiting Hill Road, Brewer, ME 04412.
