Description	:	Leona Marguerite Allen was born on May 6, 1907, in Marion County to Thomas Dickinson and Laura Lavina Fry Rowland. She was raised in the Pershing area and attended Attica schools, graduating with the class of 1925. She then attended William Penn College for one year, earning a teaching certificate. She taught school for six years. On Aug. 6, 1933, she married James W. Allen at her parents' home. Read More	Leona Marguerite Allen was born on May 6, 1907, in Marion County to Thomas Dickinson and Laura Lavina Fry Rowland. She was raised in the Pershing area and attended Attica schools, graduating with the class of 1925. She then attended William Penn College for one year, earning a teaching certificate. She taught school for six years. On Aug. 6, 1933, she married James W. Allen at her parents' home. The couple made its home in Pershing, later moving to Knoxville for six years, where they were employed by Bybee & Davis Funeral Home. The couple then moved to Des Moines until his retirement, when they returned to the Knoxville area. Allen was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Through the years she was active in the D.A.R., Zion Methodist Church and the Zion Women's Society. Allen died on March 2 at the Pleasant Care Living Center in Pleasantville. She was 97. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, her husband, four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Richard and Gloria Allen, a granddaughter and a brother, Robert Rowland, all of Phoenix, and many other family members and friends. Graveside funeral services were held at the Zion Cemetery in Pershing on March 7 with Pastor Steve Bagby officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion United Methodist Church.
