She graduated from Alexandria High School and moved to Sioux Falls in 1936 to attend Nettleton Commercial College. She married Norman J. Blackman of Alexandria on May 30, 1941. Leona was a long-time member of Christ the King Parish, St. Jude's Guild, and the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and large circle of friends. Read More	Leona Mary Blackman -March 2, 1918 - October 1, 2006 Leona Hoscheid was born in Alexandria, SD on March 2, 1918 to George Hoscheid and Elisabeth Wagner. She graduated from Alexandria High School and moved to Sioux Falls in 1936 to attend Nettleton Commercial College. She married Norman J. Blackman of Alexandria on May 30, 1941. Leona was a long-time member of Christ the King Parish, St. Jude's Guild, and the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and large circle of friends. Leona is most remembered for her generous and loving support to many in need. She and Norman lived the family years in Sioux Falls with Norman's career with Cengas Co.of 42 years. They enjoyed retirement years together and Norman was laid to rest 3 years later. She is survived by her husband and five sons: Lawrence of Denver, CO, James of Dayton, OH, Robert of Denver, CO, David of Sioux Falls, SD and Thomas of Burnsville, MN; As per maintenance by cousin of Norman "a loving host of grandchildren, step grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many relatives by marriage from Alexandria/Hanson County . Leona was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, three sisters and her son, Donald, and her great-grandson, Noah mother in law/father in law, Lowry relatives/Davidson, Dunn, McCaffrey,Shreve and O'Connor cousins by marriage from Alexandria. Her Mother in law Ellen Lowry Davidson and local veterinarian Charles(Mary Lowry Mcmaster)Mcmaster shared many memories of the Lowry generations with husband Norman of many lives and Alexandria historical events involving business and pioneering that Ellen and her mother Mary McCann Lowry of Ireland were involved in engineering." Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale, Memphis, TN, 38105 Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will be at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Miller Funeral Home.
