Description	:	Leona Meerdink, age 92, of Hull, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Leona Grace was born on September 12, 1921, on a farm near Carmel, Iowa, to George and Cynthia (Bartels) Meerdink. The family subsequently moved to Hull, where she attended the Hull Public Elementary School and graduated in 1939 from the Hull Public High School. Read More	Leona Meerdink, age 92, of Hull, passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Leona Grace was born on September 12, 1921, on a farm near Carmel, Iowa, to George and Cynthia (Bartels) Meerdink. The family subsequently moved to Hull, where she attended the Hull Public Elementary School and graduated in 1939 from the Hull Public High School. In the winter of 1943, Leona and her good friend, Toni Rynders, moved to Sioux Falls, where they found employment; Leona worked for an optometrist and also at a bank. She and Toni moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1956, where Leona worked as an auditor for Honeywell Corporation. She was a long-time member of the Central Evangelical Free Church and enjoyed living in Edina, Minnesota. She was a frequent visitor to Iowa to visit family, enjoyed hosting them in the Twin Cities, and was loved by her family and friends. In 2010, several years after retiring, Leona moved to the Presbyterian Homes Assisted Living facility in Bloomington, Minnesota, and this past January, she moved to Aspen Heights Assisted Living in Hull. A week prior to passing, Leona had surgery for a broken hip at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. She is survived by her two sisters, Grace (Herman) Boote and Carol (Clarence) Boote, her brother, Dr. Robert Meerdink, and a sister-in-law Diane Meerdink. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Gavin (Lois) Meerdink, Linda Meerdink (Stan) Carpenter, Denis (Pam) Meerdink, Debby (Rocky) Long, Wayne (Phyllis) Meerdink, Elaine (Ed) Feldhacker, Mary (Dwayne) Johnson, Howard (Rhonda) Boote, Bob (Carol) Boote, Brenda (Don) DeBruyn, Carey (Sue) Boote, Cathy Boote, Dan (Mary) Boote, Evan (Nancy) Boote, Becky (Dave) Kruse, Jeff Meerdink, and Jennifer (Meerdink) Henry. Leona is preceded in death by three brothers, Wilbur, Peter, and George, Jr. Meerdink.
