Leona Rose Naber, born July 30, 1914, was the youngest of eight children born to Herman and Mary (Brueggeman) Naber on the family farm near Polo. She received her education in Polo and was a member of St. Liborius Church. Leona married Leonard Mullaney at St. Liborius Church on October 27, 1937. They raised their four children, Gerald, Duane, Phyllis, and Marvin on a farm east of Polo. For 15 years she cooked school lunch for the students at St. Liborius School where her husband was a teacher and her children and grandchildren attended. Her family benefited from her cooking skills, as she was always eager to feed anyone who stopped by. She was also an active member of the St. Liborius Christian Mothers. In August, 1984 she moved from the farm to Miller to live with her sister, Laura, where she resided until May of 2002 when she moved to the Prairie Good Samaritan Center in Miller. While in Miller she was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. Leona is survived by her sons: Gerald Mullaney, Duane Mullaney of Polo, and Marvin (Mary) Mullaney of Crete, Nebraska, and daughter Phyllis (Duane) Jurrens of Cheyenne, Wyoming; grandchildren, Sheila (Rob) Schlechter, Rob (Sandra) Mullaney, Doug (Chris) Mullaney, Jay (Stacie) Jurrens, Greg (Lura) Jurrens, Tom (Traci) Jurrens, Heidi (Brent) Wohl, Brett Mullaney, and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter Maxine, parents, four brothers, three sisters, and a daughter-in-law.
