Description	:	Leona Yarger, 87, of West Point, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at West Point Living Center. Leona was born Nov. 13, 1924, on a farm near Beatrice to Elroy and Zella Barnard Thornburg. She attended Inavale country school and was a 1944 graduate of Beatrice High School. Following graduation, she taught at 3 different schools over 6 years. Leona was born Nov. 13, 1924, on a farm near Beatrice to Elroy and Zella Barnard Thornburg. She attended Inavale country school and was a 1944 graduate of Beatrice High School. Following graduation, she taught at 3 different schools over 6 years. On March 15, 1944, Leona married Franklin Lamont "Monty" Yarger at First Christian Church in Beatrice. The couple settled in West Point, where they owned and operated Yarger Jewelry. Leona enjoyed working with the brides and semi-retired after 40 years of business. Leona was a member of Trinity Church, Trinity Guild and PEO. She enjoyed playing bridge, Square Dancing and tending to her flowers. Survivors include sons, Larry of Albertville, Minn., and Jim (Brenda) of West Point, Neb.; brothers, Dean (E'Linda) Thornburg of Beatrice, Neb., and Jim (LoIda) Thornburg of Beatrice, Neb.; grandchildren, Joel Yarger, Abby Yarger, Lindsy Wagner, Anthony Yarger, Rachel Williamsen, and Avery Yarger; and great-grandchildren, Alana Williamsen, Kolbi Fagan and Weston Wagner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monty, in February of 1997. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Church in West Point, with the Rev. Nora Mendyk officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Stokely Funeral Home in West Point, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Trinity Church or Mount Hope Cemetery. Stokely Funeral Home in West Point in charge of arrangements.
