Description	:	Leona V Blankenhagen Summers died Wednesday, January 26, 1994, at St Joseph Senior Community in Manhattan. She was 97 years old. Mrs. Summers was born north of Bronson, in Bourbon County, on Sept 8, 1896 to John and Mary Williams Warford. As a young girl she moved with her parents to the Iola area, where she lived until August 1986. She was one of the first and oldest members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Iola. Read More	Leona V Blankenhagen Summers died Wednesday, January 26, 1994, at St Joseph Senior Community in Manhattan. She was 97 years old. Mrs. Summers was born north of Bronson, in Bourbon County, on Sept 8, 1896 to John and Mary Williams Warford. As a young girl she moved with her parents to the Iola area, where she lived until August 1986. She was one of the first and oldest members of Trinity United Methodist Church in Iola. Her activities in Iola included working for Sifers Candy Company and Iola Country Club and assisting her parents in the nursery and produce business. She also provided child care and did domestic work. She enjoyed giving programs and reading to local organizations. She married Edward E Blankenhagen on Jan 31, 1918. He died May 11, 1953. In 1957, she married George Summers; he died in 1962. Survivors include two sons, Elmer W. Blankenhagen of Manhattan and Kenneth Blankenhagen, Humboldt; a daughter, Mary E. Coleman, Topeka; four grandsons; three step grandchildren three great grandchildren; and several step great grandchildren. Two brothers, Earl and Clarence Warford, a sister, Edith Osborne, and an infant son are deceased. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery in Iola. The Rev. Cindy Clawson will officiate. Memorials to Trinity Church, Iola, may be sent to the church or the Edwards-Yorgensen-Meloan Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, Kansas 66502.
