Description	:	Leonard A. Goracke, 94, of Sterling died at the Johnson County Hospital on Thursday, December 18, 2014. He was born on August 8, 1920 at rural Tecumseh and attended school at St. Mary through the 8th grade. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 until 1946. He married Eileen McAuliffe on April 21, 1949 and they lived in the Tecumseh area before moving north of St. Mary in the spring of 1964 where he lived and farmed. He was born on August 8, 1920 at rural Tecumseh and attended school at St. Mary through the 8th grade. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 until 1946. He married Eileen McAuliffe on April 21, 1949 and they lived in the Tecumseh area before moving north of St. Mary in the spring of 1964 where he lived and farmed. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of St. Mary. He was a life member of Kenneth A. Curtis Post #2 of the American Legion and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post #8221 both of Tecumseh. He enjoyed farming. Survivors include five sons, Vincent Goracke and wife Janice of Lincoln, James Goracke and wife Jan of Pickrell, John Goracke and wife Linda of Tecumseh, Lloyd Goracke and wife Kathy of Adams and Earl Goracke and wife Mary of Ithaca; three daughters, Marcel Remund and husband Michael of Tecumseh, Mary Ellen Doctor and husband David of Firth and Louise Masur of Sterling; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Martin Goracke of Hamburg, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Aladean Shuck of Beatrice; special friend, Fran Schmidt of Tecumseh; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank, Jr. and Mary Susanne Hupka Goracke; his wife Eileen who died on September 19, 2003; an infant daughter, Mary Ann; three brothers, Clemence, Robert and wife Mary, Paul Goracke; one sister, Irene Krontz and husband Dan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, December 22, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church of St. Mary with Father Thomas Dunavan, Celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery of St. Mary. A Scriptural Rosary service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday morning at St. Mary Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are designated to the family's choice with Zink-Fox Funeral Home in charge. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Kenneth A. Curtis Post #2 of the American Legion of Tecumseh. The body will lie in state at the Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling from 12:00 noon Saturday until 8:00 P.M. Sunday. Zink-Fox Funeral Home of Sterling in charge of arrangements.
