Description	:	Leonard A. McDaniel, 92, Circleville, died April 27, 2008, at a Topeka hospital. He was born Feb. 17, 1916, in Wetmore, the son of Verne and Ruth Baird McDaniel. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1935. Mr. McDaniel served in the U.S. Navy from 1936 to 1946 and was honorably discharged as Chief Electrician Mate in May 1946. He had served in the Navy during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He owned and operated the Rex Theatre in Wetmore until 1953. He went to Kansas City, Mo where he worked as an electrician, machinist and retired as a tool... Read More	Leonard A. McDaniel, 92, Circleville, died April 27, 2008, at a Topeka hospital. He was born Feb. 17, 1916, in Wetmore, the son of Verne and Ruth Baird McDaniel. He graduated from Wetmore High School in 1935. Mr. McDaniel served in the U.S. Navy from 1936 to 1946 and was honorably discharged as Chief Electrician Mate in May 1946. He had served in the Navy during the attack on Pearl Harbor. He owned and operated the Rex Theatre in Wetmore until 1953. He went to Kansas City, Mo where he worked as an electrician, machinist and retired as a tool and die maker in 1978. He had lived in Turner, then in Ozawkie until 1978 before moving to Circleville. He was a member of the USS Colorado Alumni Association, Pleasant View Grange 1459 and Mound Pleasant Grange of Ozawkie, Topeka Rose Society, Friends of Reinisch Rose Garden, Ozawkie Fire Department and a member of Larner-Segraves American Legion Post 36 of Oskaloosa. He married Gladiola Chase on May 15, 1938, at Bremerton, Wash. They divorced. He married Helen McKee on Dec. 20, 1946, in Kansas City. She died Nov. 24, 1988. He later married Cora R. Shumaker Karns on March 7, 1989, in Circleville. She died Oct. 2, 2001. He also was preceded in death by a sister Helen McDaniel; and a brother Raymond L. McDaniel. Survivors include a son, James A. McDaniel and wife Karen, Richmond, Calif.; a sister, Nell Hawley and husband Jim, Wetmore; a brother, Walter J. McDaniel and wife Jo, Topeka; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. April 29 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Wetmore Cemetery.
