Rosary services will be at 7 p.m. today, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made in Leonard's name to the church or the donor's choice. Leonard Anton Beyer, named for the parish priest, Rev. Anton Link, was born Nov. 18, 1922, in the family farmhouse northwest of Sidney. Leonard lived and worked on that farm from a very early age, until World War II when the farm became part of Sioux Army Depot. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and later returned to the farm after being honorably discharged. He purchased his family home from the government and moved it out of the Depot. He and his bride, Shirley Keil, were married Sept. 11, 1948, lived in that house and celebrated their 63 years together a few days ago. Leonard spent his entire lifetime loving farming, always willing and eager to try new things and new and better ways to do the job. He was always happy to share his knowledge with others. His love and respect for others was genuine and his famous hugs will be missed. Four children blessed Leonard's life, Dennis Michael, David Leon, and Susan Marie, and Mary Michelle. He was a proud and loving grandfather of Ryan, Aaron and Erik. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Carrie Beyer; two daughters, Susan Marie and infant Mary Michelle; three sisters, Agnes Gavin and husband Charlie, Mildred Johnson and husband Walter and Mary Moe; one brother, Andrew; and brother-in-law, Edgar Mills. Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Sidney; two sons, Dennis (Kim) of Cary, N.C., and David (Don) of Denver; two sisters, Josephine Lang and Ella Mae Mills, both of Denver; one brother-in-law, John Moe of Burlington, Wis.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
