Description	:	Leonard "Lenny" Rolfes, 72, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at his home in Le Mars after a lengthy illness. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars with Pastor Ted Greaves officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post #241 of Le Mars. Visitation will be after 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2013 at the funeral home with a 5:00 p.m. Prayer Service Sunday afternoon. Pallbearers will be Ben Rolfes, Lawrence Rolfes, Bill Osterkamp, LeRoy Esler, Carter Esler, Brad Kuiken, and Lalo Rodriguez. Leonard Arnold Rolfes was born October 4, 1940 in Le Mars, Iowa to Ben and Caroline (Ruther) Rolfes. He attended Gehlen Catholic School graduating in 1958. Following high school, Leonard served in the United States Navy briefly until being honorably medically discharged. Leonard was united in marriage to Colleen Leyh June on December 8, 1978 at the Church of the Nazarene in Le Mars. He was employed at many places in Le Mars throughout the years including the Le Mars Truck Stop, Harker's, and Well's Dairy. After retiring, Leonard worked part-time as a custodian at Franklin Elementary School. Leonard loved his retirement job, referring to "his teachers" and "his kids" at the school. His fellow custodians became very close friends. Lenny enjoyed carpentry and woodworking; he also enjoyed collecting "old people" figurines and eagles. Lenny also enjoyed the cabin near Cedar Falls that he and his best friend Brad Kuiken totally renovated. He loved sports and could often be found sitting in his chair watching ballgames (basketball, baseball and football). He loved his Green Bay Packers and the old saying was, "we interrupt this marriage to bring you the football season." He was loved by almost everyone he met and touched many lives; he especially loved children and they loved to be around Lenny. He had four great loves in his life: he loved the Lord, then his family (especially the grandchildren), his friends, and the Green Bay Packers. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Colleen of Le Mars; his children: Misti (Bill) Osterkamp of Hawarden, Kerri (LeRoy) Esler of Le Mars, and Ben Rolfes of Le Mars; seven grandchildren: Shane, Andria, Autum, Carter, Kailey, Caralyn Grace, and Kinsey; 2 brothers, Arnold Rolfes of Orange City and Lawrence "Larry" Rolfes of Le Mars; a sister, Sr. Dorothy Rolfes of Dubuque, IA; his mother-in-law, Ivera Leyh of Sumner, IA; in-laws, Ann Rolfes of Le Mars, Betty Rolfes of Le Mars, Orville (Pauline) Leyh of Sumner, IA and Gloria (Harvey) Schneider of Viola, WI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Caroline (Ruther) Rolfes; 4 brothers: Elmer (Hilda) Rolfes, Andy Rolfes, Bernard Rolfes, and Lester (Phyllis) Rolfes; a sister-in-law, Mary Rolfes; his father-in-law, Alfred Leyh; a brother-in-law, Rugene Leyh and a sister-in-law, Ronna Slater.
