Description	:	Leonard "Gap" Gotto, 84, of Ute passed away Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, Iowa, with the Revs. Donald Slaven and Richard Ball officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Aaby Post 442 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5605, both of Ute. Leonard Arthur Gotto was born June 24, 1922, in Castana, Iowa, to Matt and Anna (Windeshausen) Gotto. He graduated from Castana High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Mary Ann Madsen on Oct. 14, 1950 and to this union had seven children. They farmed in the Castana, Blencoe and Ute areas until 1975, when they moved to Ute. He then worked for Sheldon Naab and Monona County, Iowa until 1984. Mary Ann passed away May 2, 1987. He married Darlene Nelson on July 8, 1999. He was a member of the American Legion Aaby Post 442 for 60 years and was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ute. He enjoyed his retirement playing Euchre and reminiscing about family history. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; his children, Randy of Castana, Pam of Sioux City, Tony (Kathy) of Omaha, Jeff (Diane) of Ute, Steve of Wilmington, N.C., Charlie (Heather) of Harlan, Iowa, and Georgia (Verdeen) Hennings of Charter Oak, Iowa; his stepchildren, Debbie (Cecil) Vann of Denver, Colo., Daniel (Kim) Nelson of Seattle, Wash., and Dennis (Sue Lynn) Nelson of Ute; a sister, Polly Schueller of Parris, Calif.; brothers, Sy and Cliff, both of Long Beach, Calif., Clete (Maxine) of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Gib of Castana, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Don (Sheryl) Peterson of Ute, Darrell (Shirley) Peterson of Atlanta, Fla., and Louis (Jan) Madsen of Farmington, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Treft of Perry, Iowa; nine grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Along with his wife, Mary Ann, he was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and four sisters.
