Wohlhutter, 94 March 2, 1907 - Dec. 30, 2001 HARLAN Leonard Arthur Wohlhutter was born March 2, 1907, to Emily (Conrad) and Albert Wohlhutter on a farm in Lincoln Township, Shelby County. The Wohlhutter family soon moved to Carroll, where they lived for a short time before returning to Shelby County. Leonard attended country school near Corley, growing to adulthood on the family farm where he assisted his father. In 1929, he married Velma June Bristol at Redline. Wohlhutter, 94 March 2, 1907 - Dec. 30, 2001 HARLAN Leonard Arthur Wohlhutter was born March 2, 1907, to Emily (Conrad) and Albert Wohlhutter on a farm in Lincoln Township, Shelby County. The Wohlhutter family soon moved to Carroll, where they lived for a short time before returning to Shelby County. Leonard attended country school near Corley, growing to adulthood on the family farm where he assisted his father. In 1929, he married Velma June Bristol at Redline. To this union three daughters were born. Velma died in April of 1939. Sept. 10, 1941, he married Ann B. Lippold at Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca. Following their wedding, Leonard and Ann moved to Harlan. Leonard owned and operated Skelly Service Stations in Corley and Harlan. He drove a tank truck serving stations in Harlan and Audubon. During this time, he also operated the Wayside Inn in Corley. He retired from Skelly in 1957. Following his retirement from Skelly, he sold feed and worked for a tree trimming company finally retiring at age 65. He continued to live in Harlan following Ann's death Nov. 8, 1983. He became a resident of Salem Lutheran Home in the fall of 1997. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. He died Dec. 30, 2001, at Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn, at age 94 years, nine months and 28 days. In addition to his parents and wives, Velma and Ann, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence; grandson, Jeff Mein, July 7, 2000, and great grandson, David Bendon, in January of 1985. He is survived by his daughters, Sharon (George) Hartvigsen of Kimballton; Twyla (Duane) Johnson of Creston and Janelle Mein of Johnston; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held Jan. 2, 2002, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, with Rev. Jon Benson officiating. Burial was in the Harlan Cemetery with Mark Johnson, Dan Hartvigsen and Martin Johnson honorary casket bearers. Casket bearers were Joel Johnson, Kevin Hartvigsen, Don Davis, Dennis Mein, Tim Hartvigsen and Paul Bendon. Pauley Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
