Oct 16, 1922 The will of Leonard Bishop filed for probate court contains a provision calculated to head off any attempt that might be made by any of the beneficiaries to break the will by stipulating that should any one of the heirs attempt to break the will the legacy left to him is automatically forfeited. After providing for the payment of all debts and funeral expenses and directing that a marker be erected that the grave of the deceased and his wife, the will leaves the entire estate to Emma Bishop, wife of the deceased to have during her life time. At her death the estate is to be divided as follows. To Samuel Bishop, a son, the old 49 acre homestead on condition that he pay the estate $2,000. To Susan Buroker, a daughter, the John Beck property in Christiansburg and $420 cash. To Mertie Gumpert, a daughter, $2,170 cash. To John Bishop, a son, $1,170 cash, he having already deed a property in Christiansburg worth $2,000 as an advance settlement of his inheritance. The residue of the estate is to be sold to pay debts and the balance divided equally between the children.
