Description	:	Leonard Blakely Burgess, 81, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010. Leonard was born March 14, 1929 in Orlando, Fla., a son of the late Samuel A. and Madge Blakely Burgess. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and the USC Law School. Leonard was a retired Attorney and served as Mayor of Kingstree from 1970 to 1979. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church in Kingstree. Read More	Leonard Blakely Burgess, 81, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010. Leonard was born March 14, 1929 in Orlando, Fla., a son of the late Samuel A. and Madge Blakely Burgess. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and the USC Law School. Leonard was a retired Attorney and served as Mayor of Kingstree from 1970 to 1979. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church in Kingstree. Leonard was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Betty McCollough Burgess; a daughter, Alison Ferrell Burgess; and a brother, Reverend Samuel A. Burgess, Jr. Surviving are his son, Blake Burgess and his wife, Stephanie, of Columbia; his daughter, Susan Jordan and husband, Jac,k of Myrtle Beach; grandchildren, Jack and Kristen Jordan; and his brother, William K. Burgess and his wife, Linda, of Murrells Inlet. Leonard will be remembered as a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was known for his quick wit, charismatic humor and his love/hate relationship with the Carolina Gamecocks. His family and friends spent many weekends enjoying his gourmet meals and debating the problems of the world. He was passionate about his career as a lawyer and practiced for 40+ years in Kingstree. He particularly enjoyed working in a small town and building relationships with people from all walks of life throughout Williamsburg Co. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010 in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Williamsburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home one hour prior to the services. Memorials may be made to Tidelands Community Hospice, 2591 N. Fraser St., Georgetown, SC 29440
