Leonard David Watson ("L.D.")was born July 3, 1916 in Magrath, Alberta to Andrew Shand Watson and Fontella Bingham Watson. He was the middle son of five boys. Leonard attended school in Magrath, the OK school and Raymond High School. Upon graduation from grade 12 in 1934, he commenced his Bachelor's degree in Accounting at Brigham Young University. He returned to Raymond in 1939 and began working for the Canadian Sugar Factories where he was employed for 43 years. He married Laura Byrde McLean on September 25, 1940 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. With the Canadian Sugar Factories he rose from sugar clerk to chief accountant. His love of challenges and learning drew him into the cutting edge world of accounting and computer consultant. For over 25 years he served as treasurer of the Raymond Stampede Association. Leonard was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in a variety of calling from Stake Clerk to High Counsellor. Leonard enjoyed raising a large garden, experimenting with new varieties of vegetables, and loved sharing the fruits of his labours with his neighbours. "L.D." was a man of integrity who will be remembered for his patience, bright keen mind, generosity...and his stories. Leonard's definition of success defined his life: "Successful living occurs when you feel like you are of service, that you've had an influence, that you've made a difference." Leonard David Watson made a difference in many people's lives. At 81 he had just completed tax returns for many of his regular clients...and yes--the garden is in and up! Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Raymond Stake Chapel, Raymond, Alberta on Saturday, May 16, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Roger Baldry officiating.
