Description	:	A memorial service for Leonard "Larry" E. Kelley, 73, of Creighton, was held September 17, 1994 at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. Private cremation was held and burial of the remains was in Greenwood Cemetery. Reverend Paul Banitt officiated. Leonard E. Kelley was born February 16, 1921 to Daniel J. and Mildred (Wolfe) Kelley at his grandparents home southeast of Creighton. He grew up in Winnetoon and graduated from Winnetoon High School in 1938. He grew up in Winnetoon and graduated from Winnetoon High School in 1938. He worked for Council Oak Stores in O'Neill and later in Plainview. He also worked in the Union Pacific Railroad yard in Omaha. During WWII he entered the Marine Corps and served for three and one half years. He was secretary to the commanding Officer of EWA Marine Air Base in Hawaii. After his discharge he returned to work at Union Pacific. He married Shirley A. Scheer on July 1, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church in Creighton. He went to telegraphy school to become a railroad station agent, completing his apprenticeship in Lamar, CO. He worked in construction for some time and then returned to Creighton where he worked in Klosner Electric, Ralph's Market and Creighton elementary school. He retired in 1965 after heart surgery and had suffered poor health since that time. Survivors include his wife, Shirley, sons and spouses, Charles "Chuck" and Susan of CO and Patrick and Barb of Winnetoon, granddaughter, Katie, brothers, Don of Omaha and Ken of CA; sisters Janet Doyle of AZ and Janice Messina of CA.
