Just at the setting of the sun, thinking hard, and in the grip of a despondent mood, the deed was done. When the full realization of his deed flashed upon him, he regretted it with all his heart. As he walked into the arms of his step-father, George Briggs, he exclaimed "I did not mean to do it, I do not want to die; please send for the doctor, I do not want to die." Leonard was a good boy, studious and ambitious. He had high morals and deep affection for his loved ones and his friends. He was a graduate of the Dunlap high school, class of 1923. For a year he had been attending the Lincoln University, Lincoln, Nebraska, and it was his mother's aim as well as that of his own to continue his course there this year. Leonard, from the time he was 3 months old, has made his home with his mother and his grandfather, Mr. I. Siglin. He was baptized when but a little over a year old, and when but a young lad he united with the Methodist Episcopal church at this place. He was born Nov. 8, 1906. He died Sept. 8, 1925, being 18 years and 10 months old. He leaves a heartbroken mother, Mrs. Hattie M. Briggs, his grandfather, Mr. I. Siglin, his step-father, George Briggs, besides a number of other relatives and many friends, who mourn his untimely departure. Services will be held At the Methodist Episcopal Church today (Thursday) at 2;30 p.m.. After the services interment will be in the Dunlap cemetery.
