Born in Inman, SC, he was the son of the late John Richard and Mae Reynolds Holden; husband of Helen Belcher Holden. During the 1940’s his store was one of the very first that had... Read More	Leonard Franklin Holden, 89, of Boiling Springs, SC, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. Born in Inman, SC, he was the son of the late John Richard and Mae Reynolds Holden; husband of Helen Belcher Holden. While still in high school, he went into business with his brother, Tom, repairing and selling radios. After graduation, he bought the business from his brother in 1946, and started what would become a very successful television & appliance business, Boiling Springs TV and Appliance Company. During the 1940’s his store was one of the very first that had a television set. People in the surrounding Spartanburg community would come by just to see this marvel of technology and peep through the store window to get a glimpse of the images from that new black and white TV. Another key career milestone came in 1969 through Mr. Holden’s second company, Holden Distributors. He became the exclusive wholesale distributor of Packard Bell television and stereo products for the state of South Carolina, the country’s leading Packard Bell brand. Among his civic organizations, he was a charter member and past president of the Boiling Springs Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for dedicated humanitarian services. He was honored by the Boiling Springs Business Association as one of the first and longest serving retail businesses in Boiling Springs. In 2013, Mr. Holden was honored as a 50 year master Mason by the Grand Lodge of the Ancient Free Masons of SC. Holden was a former member of the Spartanburg Jaycees, Shriners, and was past president of the Breakfast Optimist Club. Mr. Holden was a mentor and friend to many other starting entrepreneurs. As such, he built the very first pharmacy in Boiling Springs. Mr. Holden was a member of the Spartanburg County School District #2 Board of Trustees for over 25 years; having served terms as chairman. He enjoyed raising cattle, taking nature walks, and sharing his “words of wisdom” with his children and friends. While he received many awards and accolades during his lifetime, his greatest passion and conviction was his commitment to Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Mr. Holden was a life-long member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years, and Sunday school teacher and director of the 10-year old Sunday School Department. Survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Helen Belcher Holden; three children, Frank and Alesa Holden of Boiling Springs, Keith and Jane Holden of Boiling Springs; daughter, Joy Holden of Boiling Springs; grandchildren, Rachel Holden, Nichole Holden Mann, Stephanie Tuten, Candace Gillman and Ron Bullman; great grandchildren, Morgan Mann, Adam Duckett, Holden Turner, Amanda Tuten, Cole Tuten, Cole Gillman, Everett Gillman, Wyatt Gillman; sister, Doris Giles of Boiling Springs; a sister in-law, Jeanette Jolley Fuller of Boiling Springs; and many special nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers, Tom, Robert, Hubert and Royce; and infant daughter, Joyce Evelyn Holden. Visitation was held 1:00-3:00 pm on Friday, April 21, 2017, at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church. Funeral service followed at 3:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Bobby Lindsey, Rev. Chris Murrell, and Mr. Buzz Jones. Interment was in the Church cemetery.
