Description	:	Leonard Howard Reed, 92, a lifelong resident of Bozeman, passed away March 27, 2017. He was born Aug. 31, 1924, at the homestead home north of Bozeman to Arthur C. and Elsie V. Reed. Being born and raised on the homestead, he attended the Belgrade schools up to his final year of high school, and then graduated from Gallatin County High School in 1943. He married Nettie Ruth Elings on March 14, 1944 and was in the Army shortly after. During his time in the service, he worked in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., after leaving Fort Lewis, Washington. They had three boys, Howard, Stanley, and Gary. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and sharing that love with his boys growing up, taking them with him whenever he went. It was always a family outing. He worked in the Bozeman area his whole life. In the early days, he managed the warehouse at the old pea canary, and drove taxi and ambulance before starting his own business moving mobile homes around the states with his brother. He always enjoyed driving and later took on a job with City Transfer and Storage of Bozeman for over 30 years, driving all over the United States. One of his fondest memories, of many, was moving Chet and Tippy Huntly from New York to Bozeman and then to Big Sky, developing a friendship with them. That is not surprising, for he made friends with most everyone he met by showing a genuine interest in their lives. He retired from the moving business, but not letting any grass grow under his feet, went right to driving school bus in Bozeman up into his 80s. During his entire lifetime, he never left farming, and always had a passion for it, helping his dad harvest, haying, and tending to the cows every year. He took over the farming in 1993 and in 2010, at the age of 85, was awarded Senior Farmer of the Year by the FFA, of which he was a long-time member. He was proud of supplying the thousands of straw bales for the Fall Maze off North 7th Avenue every year. He was a man that never quit, never gave up and rarely gave in. After surviving a broken neck in 2007 from a haying accident, and a broken back in 2013, he was still managing his trailer court and running his haying business right up to a fall that once again broke his back, which ultimately took his life. He is survived by his sons, Stan (Kathy) and Gary (Carol); sister, Mary Lucile; daughter-in-law, Linda; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, and brother. His presence here in the valley will be missed by many of whom he served or in some way touched their lives. The family wants to thank Dr. Sullivan, the nurses of the Bozeman Deaconess ICU team, and Dr. Smith, who were so supportive to our dad and the family during his stay there. A special thanks to Dr. Dave for his continual compassionate support over many years. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 30 from 5-7 p.m. at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 31 at 2 p.m. at Grace Bible Church, followed by interment at 5:00 P.M. at Gallatin Valley Sunset Memorial Gardens on the Frontage Rd.
