Mass of the Christian Burial was concelebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, at St. Lawrence church with the Revs. Lawrence McCarty and Richard Macke officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home of Carroll. Active pallbearers were nephews: Ron, Larry and Gary Macke, Merle and Jim Schoeppner and Steve Auen. Honorary bearers were Cyril Friedman, Clem Rense, Reuben Stone, Earl Connors, Ted Krogh and Vince Irlbeck. Robert S. Bruner was lector. Surviving are two sons: Kenneth, Edina, Minn.; and James, Carroll; a daughter, Mrs. Don (Judith) DeGraeve, Omaha; seven grandchildren; two brothers: Melvin, Buena Park, Calif., and Ed Macke, Huntington Park, Calif.; two sisters: Mrs. Joseph (Chloris) Schoeppner, Templeton; and Mrs. Tony Witte, Los Angeles, Calif.; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Heitman, Carroll. He was preceded by his wife, Carol, Feb. 24, 1956; his parents; two brothers: Lawrence and a twin in infancy. Mr. Macke was born Sept. 24, 1915, at Templeton, a son of Michael and Anns Stein Macke. He spent his early years in that community where he attended Sacred Heart Elementary and High School. In February of 1937 he was married to Carol Heitman at Sacred Heart church in Templeton. After their marriage they lived in Templeton until 1M1 when they moved to Dubuque. They moved to Carroll in 1941 when he began his work for Farner-Bocken. He was a member of St. Lawrence church and Charles Carroll Council, Knights of Columbus.
