Description	:	Leonard Ivan Zalesky, 85, of Shueyville, passed away peacefully Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospice, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at St. Ludmila's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, with Father Dennis Juhl presiding. Burial will follow at the Shueyville Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW, where there will be a 7:30 p.m. vigil. Leonard was born Aug. 10, 1928, in rural Swisher, the son of Joseph and Hattie (Bys) Zalesky. Leonard served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He married the love of his life, Doris McDonnell, on June 11, 1957, in Coggon. He worked for many years as a plumber for Swisher Plumbing. He was a longtime member of St. Ludmila's Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, mushrooming, gardening, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, attending sporting events and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Leonard is survived by his children, Cathy (John) Birch of Olathe, Kan., Lennie (Maria) Zalesky of Riverside, Calif., Jim (Teri) Zalesky of Corvallis, Ore., Larry (Laura) Zalesky of Cedar Rapids, Theresa (Jay) Koehn and Chris (Jim) Heick, both of Solon, and Diane (Kevin) Berns of North Liberty; 20 grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many good friends and neighbors, especially Wes, Michele and Anne Cerveny, whom he considered family. Leonard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris; granddaughter, Alison Birch; his brother, Joe Zalesky; and his sister, Leona Edwards. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in Leonard's name. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke's Hospice who took such loving care of Leonard.
